In memory of Lee Gash-Maxey

Lee Kathryn Gash-Maxey was a founding member and dear friend of Opening Act. She was passionate about our program and how we utilize the transformative power of theatre arts to instill confidence and self-esteem in Black girls ages 5 to 17.

Lee's unwavering commitment to our mission was evident in how she wholeheartedly loved, nurtured and guided the girls who participated. Her aim was to empower girls to become proud and self-assured Black women who will make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

A void remains in our hearts, yet her legacy will forever shine as a beacon of hope and inspiration for young Black girls. Lee, may your legacy inspire girls everywhere.
